powder

this is just a little ditty about the advantages and disadvantages of the use of powder- baby powder or talcum powder.

Advantages: it makes you feel fresh, smells good, takes away any stickiness on your body, helps not to sweat as much, and just makes you feel nice

Disadvantages: Talcum powder contains a substance similar in composition to asbestos, and some studies have linked the use of talcum powder to increased incidence of ovarian cancer. Accidentally inhaling it can lead to serious respiratory problems or even death, also it can make a bit of a mess on the bathroom floor and even make the floor quite slippery.

However....when you live in a country where it's deathly hot and humid like no other powder can seem like a good friend. Sometimes when things get bad enough we can turn to things that we know aren't the best for us but because it will give us a little relief for the moment......to be completely honest I love using powder....but in the end it will or could bring results that could be unchangeable. It's hard to know what's really serious and what's just a myth.....that's where discernment comes in and making wise decisions come in. I don't say this to point fingers....I of all people make poor decisions everyday that could effect my future.....it's a daily battle of my flesh and what I know is truth. Just something for us to think about......

a boquet of sharpened pencils.....

The time has come for our kids to head back to school....I will miss having them around.....this means a new season...hot season is not really leaving us...just means rainy season is coming and it will be hot and then will rain really hard! It's kind of a love/hate season. I love the rain but it's not really practical when you have a motor bike as your main mode of transportation. But it is a good relief to the heat. So as I (we) enter into this new season let me tell you what I feel heavy on my heart as of late.....

I feel a desire to pray harder than I ever have before....to pray for direction into the heart of the community. To pray for healing both physically and spiritually for the people of Chiang Rai. To pray for my heart to be tugged at and molded and formed and shaped into the piece of art that God has instore for it. I know that means pain but I am all for it if it's going to be better than it is now! I pray for children out there that need homes that need people to care for them...that the Lord would bring them to us in His perfect timing. I pray for freedom in the land of free. I pray for understanding of culture and breaking down cultural walls..... there's so much more to pray for...so much more. So I will pray I will pray and not stop praying. Will you join me? Please join me....

I don't know how any of you are doing....please e.mail me and keep in touch. I have some good news for everyone...I will be coming home in December for a month or so! I am looking forward to seeing everyone and catching up again. This time I will be more organized and will know what to expect as far as culture shock and dealing with coming home to so much change. So I hope to see you all and get to spend some quality time with you! Thank you again for reading my blog and for taking time to be a part of my life. For taking part in my life here....You are all so pinnacle to my time here and just living life here. You are my rocks......the rocks that keep my feet steady....you bless me, I hope you know that....

signing off and going to bed....thanks again for reading.... bless you all out there...

a summer of a time.....

Summer break has definitely been fun and HOT!!! I don't know if I can speak for the kids but we have had some fun times and it's been relaxing just hanging out in Chiang Rai this break. Here's some of the fun things I have enjoyed doing with the kids: swimming, water fights, bike rides, cooking, picking fruit from the trees, bug hunting, reading, playing music, singing, dancing, sleepovers, camping, hiking, exploring, making pizzas, eating pizzas, ice cream, coffee shops, running, painting nails and playing hard. It's been a really fun time with the kids. I have really enjoyed spending quality time with them. I have loved them coming into the office to just sit with me while I am working! We have had some really special times. Here's some photos of the kids during the summer break....
